Ferberizing

We caved and Ferberized Noah. It was an awesome decision. We clearly fall into the category of parents that desire to be a 'No Cry' family, but clearly are a Ferber family. Noah cries for 10-30 minutes going to bed and he usually wakes up 1-2 times per night and cries for an additional 10-15 minutes. I actually don't feel this is too bad, maybe because this way I get more than 5 hours of continuous sleep at a time. Any guilt I had about doing this has quickly gone away with each additional hour of sleep I obtain. Selfish perhaps, but necessary, and I will definitely do this with my next kid!

  1. you have to do what works for your family! i have a lot of friends and doula-buddies that would freak out if i mentioned "cry-it-out", even if it's for a short while. but really, do what works, right?

  2. Karla, I completely agree. I was against crying it out until I realized that I needed sleep. It was certainly the right decision for us. Benny is great at falling asleep by himself now. In fact, he prefers to get in his crib. However, Benny recently went through a phase when he didn't want to sleep for about a month and a half. We let him "cry it out" for over two hours every night and before each nap. It was awful. But, in the end, I'm glad we stuck with it and had him calm himself. He's back at the amazing sleep and we'll do the cry it out with our next kid for sure (if needed, of course)!

  3. Yeah, up until teething the twins went to sleep quietly and perfectly together in their own crib. Then, one night, I looked at Randy and said, 'let's try it' and it worked. The first night Mae cried for 45 minutes (Eve gave up after 20) but now it's maybe 5 minutes and they're fine. And eight solid hours for both me and Randy is wonderful....until teething hits again. :) Congrats on the extra sleep!
